Our differentiation at J-MAC Capital is our focus on 'Clean Technology', as well as the more traditional Technology, Media and Telecom companies.
What do we mean by Clean Technology?
We look to invest in companies that will make a positive difference to the environment by supplying the equipment and technology to the Renewable Energy companies. Our research suggests there are approximately 250 companies in this sub-sector, with a market capitalization of over $1.3 trillion. They include solar, wind, hydro and storage companies. Their products are silicon wafers, rechargeable batteries, cells and module producers, turbines, systems integrators and more. Examples include Renewable Energy based in Norway, MEMC Materials in the United States, Q-Cells in Germany and Tokuyama in Japan
Liquidity limits our exposure to 20%
Clean Technology is a strong secular theme that will likely see above average growth for many years to come. We will look to invest in companies that offer our clients superior risk-adjusted returns. However, liquidity constraints will limit Clean Technology to 20% of our total portfolio at the outset. Over time, and as more companies come to the public markets, the percentage will increase. We will update our investors via a regular newsletter.
J-MAC Capital First Mover Advantage
We believe we have a first mover advantage in Clean Technology. The dynamics of the companies in this universe are similar to the semiconductor manufacturers and semiconductor equipment makers, which we have researched over several economic cycles. Our network of contacts in the venture capital and private equity community in the USA and particularly regions such as Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK give us an edge.
